5 Things I Wish I Knew Before I Started Working Out

It's been over a decade since Chris Heria started his calisthenics journey, and this week, he shares some key tips that he wish he had known when he was beginning to workout. These strategies can greatly benefit you, as well as accelerate the rate of your progression as you build skill and strength. 

Of course, when discussing tips for fitness, we have to start with the nutrients we are putting inside our bodies. The quality of fuel we input into our bodies heavily influences the quality of our output. Therefore, by starting early and making a conscientious effort to nourish your body with a diet rich in macronutrients, the growth of your muscle mass will be facilitated. This, of course, is tailored to your own person goals but a balanced diet is key. 

Proper breathing during your workouts is fundamental to any form of body movement, this can range from yoga practices to martial arts-- with calisthenics being no exception. Therefore, by focusing on the proper technique of breathing and syncing your breath to your movement, you can increase your power, endurance, and number of repetitions. This can even influence your autonomic nervous system's regulation and result in better control of your heart rate which will improve your stamina and further your fitness goal. 

Appropriate curation of your fitness regimen is also paramount. By carefully choosing the exercises that will optimize your progression plan, you can increase the efficacy of your workouts and advance in your journey! Don't let anything intimidate you, and don't be afraid to challenge yourself-- safely, of course. By taking care of your body and increasing your awareness of the physiology of your body, you can accomplish any fitness goal.
