A safe practice of maintaining a caloric deficit guided by proper nutritional habits will allow you to burn more calories than you would consume on a daily basis. However, ensure that those calories that you do consume are nutrient dense-- i.e stray away from those sugary and or processed foods and rather, fill your meals with rich sources of protein and leafy greens. This will boost your metabolism and facilitate your shred by burning more calories and building more muscle. Consequently, in a positive feedback loop fashion, more muscle mass will in turn promote increased burning of calories.
Other things to keep in mind are adequate hydration, sleep, and exercise. Water is key to the metabolic processes that transform stored fat and carbohydrates into fuel. It also promotes the excretion of toxins while optimizing your workouts by maintaining a homeostatic level of hydration required when exercising. This not only prevents muscular fatigue but also muscle cramps. Sleep also contributes to enhanced levels of physical activity while further preventing insulin resistance.
