I Taught JOE JONAS How To HANDSTAND | JONAS BROTHERS VS CALISTHENICS

When you think of Chris, you think of gravity-defying calisthenics, laser-focused tutorials, and that signature blend of grit and grace. But every now and then, he flips the script: and this time, he meets up with this pop icon at Rock Lititz Studio.

Enter Joe Jonas. Yes, that Joe Jonas. The Grammy-nominated singer, actor, fitness buff and now aspiring handstand enthusiast?

The mission? Help Joe ‘get in shape fast’ for an upcoming tour and along the way, hold a handstand. Following along with Joe is Greg, the Creative Director for The Jonas Brothers. But instead of tossing them upside down and hoping for the best, Chris broke it down into a methodical, eight-level progression; basically, a masterclass in how to make the impossible feel possible.

So, if you are a total beginner or looking to refine your form, this breakdown is a roadmap to vertical victory. Here is how Chris guided Joe and Greg, and how you can follow along:

Level 1: Pike Hold

Start with your feet elevated on a surface, hips stacked over your shoulders, and hands planted firmly on the ground. This builds shoulder strength and spatial awareness.

Level 2: High Pike Hold

Same position, but elevate your feet even higher. This increases the load on your shoulders and mimics the vertical alignment of a handstand.

Level 3: Wall Walk

Face the wall, walk your feet up while walking your hands closer. This teaches control and builds confidence in the inverted position.

Level 4: Handstand Kick-Up

Time to go vertical. Practice kicking up into a handstand against the wall. Focus on control, not just momentum.

Level 5: Finger Presses

With your back to the wall, shift your weight onto your fingers and palms. This strengthens the micro-adjustments needed for balance.

Level 6: Finger Press & Release

Now add a challenge: press into your fingers, then briefly release and re-engage. It’s all about control and proprioception.

Level 7: The Invisible Box Test

Imagine stepping onto an invisible box to kick up. This mental cue helps with alignment and reduces over-kicking.

Level 8: Handstand Dismount

Control your exit. Whether it’s a gentle step down or a cartwheel out, mastering the dismount is key to injury-free progress

So, how did Joe and Greg do? They gave it their all and were rewarded with results! And for those who are following along: Remember progressions are power: Don’t skip steps. Each level builds the strength and awareness you will need for the next. Mindset matters: Joe’s willingness to try and try again is the real flex.
